Lets Beat to a Different Drum
People choose music they like for a variety of reasons. Some prefer certain music because it simply fades into the background, while others like the loud, in-your-face quality of a song. Some people prefer nuanced music. It is entirely up to the individual what he or she selects. In fact, one interesting aspect of music listening is whether a person listens to the lyrics or not.
Some people decide to march to their own drummer in this area, making up words to fit the melody of a song. Others may chide them for spouting gibberish or for not taking the time to learn the words “correctly”, but for these people, music is totally about the melody and rhythm, with the lyrics being less important. If you decide to make up words to songs, it’s fine, you are doing your thing, as long as you enjoy the music you are listening to. For those that see lyrics as poetry that should be savored, this can seem like a strange concept, but it is perfectly acceptable to enjoy a song any way you want to enjoy it. Some artists do not even place a premium on lyrics, choosing to just string together words or phrases that sound good together.
